Our speech therapy services

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs), often called speech therapists, are healthcare professionals who:

  • Assess and diagnose: They evaluate individuals to identify speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders.
  • Treat disorders: They develop and implement personalized treatment plans to improve communication and swallowing skills.
  • Educate and counsel: They provide guidance and support to clients and their families on how to cope with communication challenges.

Here’s a breakdown of some key areas they focus on:

  • Speech Sounds: Helping individuals produce speech sounds correctly (articulation), such as correcting mispronunciations (e.g., lisps).
  • Fluency: Addressing stuttering or other fluency disorders to improve the smoothness and flow of speech.
  • Voice: Treating voice disorders like hoarseness, breathiness, or loss of voice.
  • Language:
    • Receptive Language: Helping individuals understand and process language (e.g., following directions, understanding conversations).
    • Expressive Language: Assisting with the development and use of language for communication (e.g., vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure).
  • Social Communication: Helping individuals improve social skills related to communication, such as turn-taking, eye contact, and understanding social cues.
  • Cognitive-Communication: Addressing communication difficulties related to cognitive impairments, such as memory problems, attention deficits, and difficulty with problem-solving.
  • Swallowing: Evaluating and treating swallowing disorders (dysphagia) to prevent choking and ensure safe and effective eating and drinking.
